Historic publications, newsletters, and institutional records from the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology — 160 years of forensic science documentation preserved for reference and research.
AFIP produced a substantial body of institutional publications throughout its operational history. These include the AFIP Newsletter (published monthly from 1948 through 2005), annual reports documenting the institute's consultation caseload and research output, and special publications commemorating institutional milestones. Together, they constitute a primary-source record of how forensic pathology evolved as a discipline during the second half of the twentieth century.
The archive contains course syllabi, teaching guides, and examination materials from AFIP's educational programs — including the Wednesday Slide Conference case materials, radiologic-pathologic correlation course handouts, and veterinary pathology continuing education modules. These materials reflect the pedagogical approaches that trained generations of diagnostic pathologists.
AFIP staff contributed to thousands of peer-reviewed publications across pathology, forensic science, and medical education. The archive indexes AFIP-affiliated research by department, author, and subject, providing a bibliography of the institute's scientific contributions. Key series include the AFIP Atlas of Tumor Pathology (widely considered the definitive reference in surgical pathology) and the AFIP Fascicles.
The AFIP document archive is being digitized and cataloged. Priority materials will be made available as processing is completed. For specific archival requests, contact us directly.
