Division of Environmental Pathology
The division provides pathology support to the Divisions of Environmental Toxicology, Chemical Microscopy, and Biophysical Toxicology, and provides consultation for other departments of the AFIP, and for outside military, federal, and civilian contributors. The division has been increasingly involved in the characterization of materials in anatomic pathology specimens, carrying on the work formerly conducted by the Division of Chemical Pathology. The Division promotes the development and implementation of new diagnostic techniques, which include histological, morphological, structural, molecular biology, chemical, and biophysical techniques for the identification of the causes of injury to human and animal tissue that arise from environmental and toxicological exposures.

The Division maintains AFIP's registries for former prisoners of war from the Persian Gulf War and Operation Iraqi Freedom, as well as agent orange.
