Tumors

Tumors are space filling lesions
Made of cells growing without known reasons
They expand and can spread
From the toe to the head
They're the host's own parts guilty of treason.

To classify tumors we need
Certain data on which to take heed
Behavior and site
Histological type
And whether they've spread and sown seed.

Most cancers are carcinomas
If from stroma they're labelled sarcomas
It depends on the tissue
From which they do issue
When primitive they are blastomas.

If lymphoid we call them lymphomas
From blood vessels hemangiomas
From glia gliomas
Or astrocytomas
And oligodendrogliomas.

Von Hansemann's term anaplasia
Describes a cell's state of dyscrasia
Pleomorphic erratic
And hyperchromatic
A feature of forms of dysplasia.

Thus a tumor with cells large and blue
Having nuclei many and few
With frequent mitosis
And dismal prognosis
Anaplastic's the word that is due.

Despite all the studies we try
Some tumors our efforts defy
We know not their name
Nor what is their game
So we say they are unclassified.
